Mike Schooler guest blogs on Michigan vs. San Diego State

As I didn't watch the game, here is Memphis Michigan Spirit Club (defacto) leader, Mike Schooler's take on Saturday's game.
"Many Michigan fans were concerned about this game. Could an upset be forthcoming?

Indeed many of the so-called experts were predicting it...Mark May, Stewart Mandel... My prediction was that if we could be up by 21-0 or 28-7 by halftime, I would be happy. Maybe I should have May's and Mandel's jobs.

San Diego State has the west coast offense that could play havoc with this fledgling, but improving Michigan defense. Indeed their running back Hillman was ranked second in the NCAA with 165 yards per game and 16 points per game. As a matter of fact, San Diego State had a string of games scoring 21 points or more for like 17 straight games, ranking second to only Alabama in that run.

If a three and out was what Michigan needed to start the game, that is what they got. Then the Denard show took over with a quick series of plays ending in touchdown. Two more touchdowns and a bend-but-don't-break defense got me my predicted 21-0 halftime lead.

The third quarter proved what could be the biggest concern for Michigan fans. Interception, interception, missed 40 yard field goal and fumble was the result of their effort, or should I say lack of effort, in that period. I agree with Hoke who lamented their lack of intensity. That can't happen against Big Ten foes.

While Fitz and Vincent combined for 114 yards, it was again the Denard show. 200 yards rushing...he's amazing...but due to past experience, I agree with the general feeling of the Wolverine Nation that we don't want him to continue to be the brunt of the running attack and get beaten up.

What we can celebrate is the effort of the aforementioned bend-but-don't-break defense. Hillman only got 109 yards rushing. SDSU had the ball on the Michigan side of the field 11 times and only scored once. I really feel THAT is the cause for hope that must come out of this game.

Little Brown Jug next week. We must go 5-0 after that game and use it as momentum going forward! Go Blue!"
As always...
It's good, to be, a Michigan Wolverine! Go Michigan, Beat the Golphers!
